PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is a treatment for patients with actively thinning, mild/moderate hair loss and should be used in combination with medications such as Monoxidil and Finasteride. It may take up to a year for a patient to determine if PRP is working for them. Bi-annual (every six months) treatments are typically recommended as a means of maintenance.
What can I expect during my PRP appointment?
- Blood will be drawn by one of our clinical staff.
- The blood will be processed in a centrifuge.
- The physician then removes a portion of the platelet poor plasma and discards, agitates the collection tube to re-suspend the platelets, and draws up the platelet rich plasma.
- Finally, the physician injects the patient’s scalp (any areas of hair loss or hair thinning) and will massage the scalp after the injections.
What results can be expected from PRP?
Look for results between six months to a year after treatment, with swelling and discomfort of the treated area subsiding after a day or two. Many factors can affect when results appear and how pronounced they are. These factors include your sex, age, hormonal balance, blood flow, and more.
